This service project is hosted by the Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana (PKO), a grassroots organization dedicated to aloha ʻāina and healing the island after decades of misuse, first being overrun by cattle and goats, then being used as a bombing and livefire training site by the US military for 50 years.

From Makai to Mauka - Pu‘uwa‘awa‘a ahupuaʻa is located on the North Kona district of Hawaiʻi Island on the leeward side, spanning eight miles from an elevation of 6,500 feet to sea level at Kīholo Bay.

Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1985 to protect and manage endangered Hawaiian forest birds and their rain forest habitat. It is a US Fish and Wildlife site located on the windward slope of Mauna Kea, Island of Hawai‘i.

Nu'alolo Kai, a coastal area along the world-renowned Nā Pali Coast, contains some of the most intact native Hawaiian sites in all the islands. Our host, the Nā Pali Coast 'Ohana, is a grassroots organization dedicated to the preservation of the natural and cultural resources of Nā Pali Coast State Park, which also includes other incredible places such as Hanakapiai, Kalalau, and Milolii.

Waipā is an ahupuaʻa on the north shore of Kauaʻi, bordering Hanalei Bay. Several decades ago, a large development was planned for the valley, but prominent families from the area joined together and asked the landowner, Kamehameha Schools, to instead let them manage it to protect its natural resources, grow food, and benefit the community, thus creating the Waipā Foundation.
